Workshop Synopses

Voice Skills and Accents  (Years 10, 11 & 12)

This fun and involved class will take you through the process of understanding your own voice, what drives it and how it works, and the sounds you use to be understood; then gives you the tools you need to be able to "shift gears" and speak in another accent for performance.  Starting with the thought you have to express, discovering the breath, resonance to express it with, and encountering the sounds you articulate.  From there we'll compare your own accent to Standard British and Standard American, exploring both scenes and monologues.  Tutor:  Nick Curnow

Making Theatre (Years, 10, 11 & 12)

During this workshop, you will build your performance skills as you explore devising and improvisation and how to make theatre.  The creative brain will be challenged, engaged and inspired as you create a performance piece from scratch with your peers.  You will be presented with pieces of stimulus to inspire the theatre making process for both individual and group performances.  Tutor: Natalie Richards

Physical Theatre (Years 7, 8 & 9)

This workshop would explore some core Jacques Lecoq work and how to physicalize a character by using your body in non-traditional ways.  You will explore Lecoq exercises such as flocking, positions, the magic chair, the telephone, the 7 levels of tension and the elements.  Participants will also work on storytelling through movement, devising from physical action and moving with intention.  Tutor:  Cutis Fernandez

Improvisation (Years 7, 8 & 9)

During this workshop you will learn how to capture comedy and extend your craft by honing your ability to think on the spot, accept offers and act spontaneously.  By working in small groups, you will build trust and dramatic rapport; feel safe to explore character and scenario, and take risks to seek out the comic and meaningful moments.  Tutor:  Heather Campbell
