State Music Camps

As part of The Arts Unit’s support of the Department of Education and Communities’ Rural and Remote Education blueprint for action, we are excited to be able to offer a Participation Subsidy of $250 to students from rural and remote schools. This financial support is to facilitate engagement of students who are accepted into State Music Camps.

Please note: If interest exceeds available funds, allocation of the Participation Subsidy will be prioritised based on remoteness.

Subsidies will be confirmed with acceptance notification.

About the State Music Camps

The State Music Camps promote excellence in all forms of music making and provide gifted and talented students with extension experiences unavailable within their own school or community. In addition to this, students and staff have a fantastic time in a unique setting for music education.

Students from NSW Government schools have been attending State Music Camps for more than 60 years. Talented music students join together for one week each year to receive expert tutelage and develop their performance skills. Participants rehearse and perform high quality repertoire culminating in a concert for families and friends on the final night of the camp.

Musical activities at camp include participation in a major ensemble (symphony orchestra, symphonic bands, vocal ensembles, rock band and saxophone ensemble) as well as a number of elective ensembles and activities. Elective activities include brass and woodwind ensembles, stage band, jazz improvisation, composition, music technology, music theatre, music and movement.

 Professional Learning for Teachers

Professional learning for music teachers is available thorugh attendance at the State Music Camp. Teachers wanting to enhance their music teaching skills will benefit from tuition from professional musicians and staff from The Arts Unit.
